So after patiently waiting for the release of the Hourglass Illume Sheer Colour Trio Sunset summer limited edition palette from Hourglass I managed to buy it from SpaceNK in Harvey Nichols.
As a quick note it is now sold out online at SpaceNK but still in stock at John Lewis priced at £54. You may be able to find it in store at some SpaceNK stockists but I know they have now sold out in Birmingham.
I’m afraid I found the packaging really hard to photograph as its so shiny but look at all the generous samples I was given as well!
So onto the main star in the picture… the palette itself.
It’s absolutely gorgeous and the sizes of the pans are really well thought out. The blush and bronzer/ contour are the largest at 6g each while the highlighter is 5g. This makes sense to me in terms of usage as I’ll generally use more blush and contour then highlight when doing my makeup.
Here’s a close up for you.
Here’s some swatches in different lighting, the first three swatches from the left are true swatches the second set going across to the right is swatching with what ever product was left on my fingers. As you can see they are quite pigmented which I love but also really easy to work with. You can use these products with your fingers, a sponge or a stippling brush.
You can see how creamy they are here from where I have swatched. All three are really easy to blend and easy to build up for a stronger look. The bronzer/ contour is a medium tan, the blusher is a peachy pink and the highlight is a champagne colour without loads of glitter so quite subtle.
I personally have been searching for something for a quick and easy effortless look and I’ve found it at long last!
It is a car photo I’m afraid and this is 4 hours after application during a drive to London so it lasted well. I’ve not used any makeup products other than my Estée Lauder Doublewear Light and this palette. I used the bronzer as a subtle contour, the blush as light blusher and as a lip colour and finally the highlighter on my browbone area and tops of my cheeks.
Looking back maybe I could have done with a bit of concealer under my eyes but I’m still impressed. You could of course go heavier with application but for me this is the perfect no effort look I was going for. I used used a stippling brush to apply even though I would usually use an Original Beauty Blender for cream or liquid products and loved the results!
For a lighter summer routine or for holidays I can’t recommend the Hourglass Illume Sheer Colour Trio Sunset enough. I’ve decided I’m literally taking this, my Estée Lauder light and mascara away with me to Barcelona because I don’t want to be spending ages doing my makeup like I usually would.
You might be wondering about the other products I was given to try out…
The Veil primer is very impressive I have to admit and really did make my makeup last all day but I’m not a huge fan of the texture which is just a personal preference so I’ll be sticking with my Laura Mercier for now. I’ll try it again when it’s not so hot.
I’m afraid I’ve not tried the mascara yet as I don’t like having loads open but I’m taking it away wth me so I’ll let you know how I get on.
The Equilibrium I have been using and my skin does feel really soft but I’ve not noticed a difference in tone. I’ll feedback once I’ve finished it though.
Lastly the Opaque Rouge in Icon, I really like this and I am tempted to buy a full size in a different colour.
Overall I’m impressed with everything I’ve tried. If you are tempted by the trio palette I’d say get it while you can. I have already bought a back up because I was worried about it selling out too fast.
What do you think to the Hourglass Illume Sheer Colour Trio Sunset? Are you tempted?
Update: the Hourglass Illume Sheer Colour Trio Sunset has been made permanent now.
