Before I tell you about an afternoon with Kiehl’s how about some details about the brand? So a bit about this iconic brand…it all started in 1851 at Pear Tree Corner. In 1984 the brand Kiehl’s was born when apprentice John Kiehl purchased Brunswick Apotheke and renamed it Kiehl’s Pharmacy. From there it carried on growing adding a recycle and reward programme in 2009 for its loyal customers. You can learn about Kiehl’s heritage here…
Last week I was rather lucky and managed to spend Wednesday afternoon with Kiehl’s in their Grand Central Birmingham store. Well what a delight it was being surrounded by all their luscious skincare💕. I had a really good look round during the event and have to admit I have a sizeable wish list which includes a few of their best sellers…
I already have Midnight Recovery Concentrate and have to say it’s the stuff of dreams!
I’ve had my bottle about eight months and it’s only just coming to an end which value wise is absolutely amazing isn’t it at £37 30ml (I’m not into scrimping when applying either). I can see why this has fast become a cult product and it’s number one best seller as its left my skin feeling really supple and plumped with just three drops an evening.
To use this I cleanse as usual then gently pat and massage into my face avoiding the eye area. My usual routine involves following with a night cream but this can be used alone. For me the smell of lavender relaxes me while I’m getting ready for bed so this just adds to my love of the product. Midnight Recovery contains a lot of ingredients that are amazing skin foods such as squalane which is an oil from olives, it’s molecular structure is similar to natural skin lipids so it absorbs extremely easily. On top of squalane there’s evening primrose oil, jasmine extract and rose flower oil in this wonder product amongst many other essential oils. A lot of people shy away from oils but really you shouldn’t this won’t leave your skin feeling greasy at all I promise! What Kiehl’s says:
One night. A few drops. Younger-looking skin by morning
Replenishes skin with moisture
99.8% Naturally Derived Ingredients
Helps to recover radiance by morning
Recyclable glass bottle, dropper and plastic squeeze top in a protective 100% recycled board carton
Daily Reviving Concentrate is like Midnight Recovery’s twin sibling for the daytime. It’s worth saying I’ve already used this four days and it’s barely made a dint! This can just like its twin be used on its own or with a moisturiser, I used this under my usual day cream.
I started my mornings with a quick cleanse then patted and massaged 3 drops into my face again avoiding the eye area. After about five minutes (making a cup of coffee) I was fine to apply my daily moisturiser, primer then makeup. I should add that I also love the smell of this first thing in the morning, it’s quite invigorating and for me the strongest note is grapefruit.
Being an oil I think some of you might worry that your makeup may slip during the day- I can assure you this is not something I found at all. My skin felt hydrated throughout the day and there was no hint of a shine! I live in Birmingham so can do with all the help I can get when it comes to protecting against pollution, tamanu, ginger root, sunflower seed oil and other essential oils in Daily Reviving Concentrate form a barrier against all these badies.
Just like Midnight Recovery this is suitable for any skin type. This is what Kiehl’s say about it:
Strengthens skin’s defenses against daily aggressors to keep skin youthful and radiant-looking all day
Provides antioxidant protection with a powerful blend of naturally-derived oils, including Ginger Root, Sunflower and Tamanu, to help skin feel fresh and look energized morning to night
Paraben free, 100% natural origin, Mineral oil free, Non-comedogenic, Non-acnegenic
Importantly would I buy this at £37 for 30ml… yes I would! Using the two of these together my skin does feel more hydrated as well as less dull in appearance and well I adore the smell of both. I don’t think either are expensive considering how long they last.
- Rosa Arctica
- Powerful- Strength Line- Reducing Concentrate
- Grapefruit Bath & Shower Liquid Body Cleanser
- Creme de Corps
I’ll be doing a follow up blog about these products as I wanted to give each a chance on their own.
Here’s a few pictures from my afternoon…
I adore everything about Kiehl’s from its products all the way to the pharmaceutical style shop layout. If you haven’t tried Kiehl’s or been to one of their shops I can’t recommend that you do highly enough. The knowledgeable staff will happily test your skin to see what products will work for you such as their range of moisturisers (I have two on my wish list).
All in all I’m loving my Kiehl’s products and had a fabulous afternoon learning about my skin type (normal to slightly dry) and about about a range of their products. I’m very much looking forward to trying out the rest of my products during the week.
Hope you’ve all had a relaxing weekend and loved my afternoon with Kiehl’s? Do let me know which products you’ve tried and what you think I should try out next.
